Below is a comparison of HostGator (http://www.hostgator.com) and JustHost (http://www.JustHost.com)
This review is basically comparing one of the granddaddies of web hosting with a new kid on the block. HostGator is an established company with a long-standing reputation, while JustHost has only been in the industry for a couple of years. However, the owner of the company Chris Phillips has been working in the web hosting business much longer than that, and knows his way around the technical field as well as anyone else. We will take a close look at both of these web hosting companies to see how they stack up to each other.
Features and Pricing
HostGator offers three different web hosting packages, ranging in price from $4.95 to $12.95 a month. The basic package, dubbed the Hatchling Plan, offers a single domain, unlimited disk space and unlimited bandwidth. The fully loaded plan offers every feature imaginable, along with unlimited domains, disk space and bandwidth. It also provides a free dedicated SSL and IP, along with a plethora of eCommerce services that make this package an excellent deal for the money.
JustHost offers two different packages; the JustPlan and the JustPlan Premium. Prices range from $3.45 to $6.95 a month, although we believe those are promotional prices that are subject to change at any time. The premium plan offers three free domains for life, which basically means for as long as JustHost is in business. Considering the fact that JustHost is still a newcomer to the web hosting field, we aren't sure how much this feature will be worth over the long haul.
Reliability
We are pleased to see that both HostGator and JustHost offer a 99.9% uptime guarantee. HostGator also offers 24/7 server monitoring, automatic backups and weekly off-site backups. JustHost offers similar features, although we couldn't find specifics about off-site backups. JustHost also includes Biometric Security in their packages. When it comes to reliability, both hosting services rate about equally.
Support
While both of these hosting companies have received positive marks in the quality of service, HostGator has one of the highest approval ratings in the industry. In addition to the 24/7 support via phone, email and live chat, HostGator offers a huge support portal, featuring hundreds of tutorials and articles to help customers through the web hosting process.
General Aspects
While JustHost is showing some promise as a newcomer to the web hosting industry, there is something to be said for the voice of experience. Although the owner of JustHost is experienced in the field, he does not appear to be nearly as visible as the CEO of HostGator, Brent Oxley. Oxley has even been known to encourage customers to contact him directly for help if they do not receive satisfactory service from his staff. He is known for making generous compensation for customers concerns and frustrations as well.
Overall, we believe that HostGator may be the safer bet in web hosting at this time. While JustHost offers some promising features, excellent reliability and decent service, we think the company may need more time to prove itself a worthy option in this highly competitive industry.
